Good morning gorgeous.
Doesn’t this just look so peaceful? This is what my living room looks like after it’s been cleaned up, with out my adorable mess makers to wreck havoc upon it. After a few months of one or more of us being sick at a time, irritability was at an all time high. I decided that it was time for a change.
Introducing, quiet time. A time where we all get to do the things we want to do, but in our own spaces. This has been HUGE in helping me gather myself and feel happier. For over 5 years I’ve been a mom and it wasn’t until this year that I realized what I needed to do for myself in order to be more present for my children.
I generally Do not announce that we are having quiet time, but instead I’ll say that I’m going to set them up with some activities in their own rooms. I try to give them one fun thing to incorporate into the things that they already have in their rooms. For example my daughter loves looking at tutorials to give her ideas on how to create different drawings or crafts so we’ll search together and find a good video to give her some ideas. Or, maybe she wants to play with her toy kitchen and I’ll give her some of my cooking utensils.
With my son I will usually put on a cartoon and find all of the toys that go along with that cartoon. For example maybe I’ll put cars on and then I’ll get him out a whole bunch of his car toys and setup a road for him to drive them on. Quiet time does not always include Electronics but I am not ashamed to say that I do use them to allow myself the quiet time that I and they might need each day. While they are playing, after I have my space cleaned, I love to sit down with a cup of coffee and watch a show or blog or read one of the 10,000 magazines that have been delivered that I haven’t had time to sit down and read. Sometimes quiet time only last 5 minutes and other times maybe I’ll get a half hour or 45 minutes out of it. Regardless just having that down time feel so good.
Do you practice anything like this? I would love to hear your ideas and what works for you!
