How I “date” my kids at home.

I am constantly moving things here and there around my house. Some may say it’s too much too often…ehem , my husband… but to me it’s not. As a stay at home mom, the kids and I are together a lot and a change in scenery so to speak can be just enough to break up a bad day or begin a new day on a good note.

This morning I wanted to make up for the fact that I spent so much of my time yesterday decluttering and had to turn down many sweet requests to stop and play.

I took a table and chair set from G’s room and brought it out in the living room along with a rug, to help catch any spills. I brought flowers from my dining room table (thanks hubby!) And then invited them to come join me for breakfast and we can play restaurant! I gave them lots of options for breakfast

Eggs, pancakes, french toast, cereal, toast, fruit bowel and oatmeal.

They decided on honey bread and oatmeal. In lieu of coffee, I made them hot cocoa. We chatted, took turns playing crossy road, and talked about our favorite parts of the last couple of days. A’s favorite was a box of cards I had collected over the years from 2nd hand shops. I gave them to her and she LOVES them. Shes been giving G and I cards to say I love you and they are so sweet. G’s favorite was eating oatmeal. Haha He doesn’t really understand that question yet. My favorite was right here, right now, with them. Sometimes slowing down and taking the time to make special memories with those you love are exactly what our hearts need.

What I’m trying to say is, don’t be afraid to make dates with your kids, at home. It’s almost always free, pants arent required and your kids will love it. I think I may make these breakfasts part of our habits. It was nice to break up the monotony of the normal breakfast routine and actually “serve” them so to speak. It made them feel really special & that’s what it’s all about.

A couple of weeks ago at Pre-K, A had to answer some questions about her on a poster. One was something to the effect of, what’s your favorite thing to do? Her answer was, “I love to go on dates with my mommy and daddy”. Today she said this was a good date. ❤

What do you think? Do you think you’ll date your kids today? Let me know your thoughts. 🙂
